Course duration:

The length and content of your course will depend on the type of plant or equipment you pick.

As an example these are for fork lift trucks:

       Novice: 3 days

Experienced:2 days

Conversion: 2 days

  Refresher: 1 day

The number of candidates on each  of these fork lift truck courses is limited to 3 per day

Objectives and aims :

                                     To prepare candidates and learners as plant operators where an in house

                                     or awarding body qualification is required.

 

Who is the course designed for?

 

                       Novice: Workers who are new to the operation of the fork lift truck or the plant equipment

                                      they have chosen and have no experience and have not had any formal training.

 

               Experienced: Workers who have some experience or background working with the fork lift truck

                                       or the plant equipment chosen but do not have any formal qualification or training.

 

               Conversion: Workers who have had some basic training on a specific type of fork lift truck or

                                       plant equipment, are using it regularly and also have a certificate of training to support

                                       this and can submit it as evidence. (copy of certificate required before course starts)

 

                  Refresher: Workers who have had some basic training, are currently operating the fork lift truck

                                     or plant equipment and need a refresher in conjunction with current legislation.

                                      Candidates need a certificate of training to support this as evidence.

Course contents can include:

 

                              . Heath and safety at work act 1974

                              . Approved codes of practice

                              . Provision and use of work equipment regulations 1998

                              . Lifting operations and lifting equipment regulations 1998

                              . Identify the basic construction and components on the equipment, it's purpose and use

                              . Interpretation of manufacturers and statutory information and guidelines

                              . How to comply with manufacturers instructions in accordance with operator's handbooks

                              . How to carry out all pre use checks required

                              . Factors affecting safety, operation and stability

                              . How to operate the equipment to meet and comply with industry standards including

                              . Loading and unloading vehicles

                              . Stacking and de-stacking

                              . Moving varying types of loads including live loads

                              . Operating machinery in both open and confined spaces

                              . Smooth use of controls and any hydraulic functions

                              . Attachment and use of ancillary equipment

                              . Hazard identification and countermeasures

                              . Operate machinery to it's maximum and minimum limitations

 

Training methods :

                            To meet any awarding body standards and in accordance with statutory requirements

 

                             This will include when appropriate theoretical classroom work where the candidate

                             can demonstrate their knowledge and understanding and may culminate in some

                             form of written or online exam.

 

                             Participative, practical work where the candidate will receive instruction and will operate
