Handling
Foundation
or Refresher Training - 1/2 day course (2– 4 hours)
Prior
to taking this course, each candidate will complete a pre-course
questionnaire, which will determine if there are any factors that
our instructor’s may have to consider that may affect the delivery
or content of the course. These factors may be disability
or other health problems including back pain; or factors related
to a candidate’s working environment or background.
All
of our Instructors are qualified and the course is designed to
conform to the standards set out specifically in relation to manual
handling.
The
purpose of this course is to educate the candidate in the following
aspects of manual handling related to both the practical and theory
elements:

Manual handling operations
regulations
·
Avoiding hazards
·
Rules for safe lifting
·
Correct movement and posture,
lifting techniques
·
Hazards to vision
·
Physiological hazards
·
Remedies (good housekeeping)
·
Equipment characteristics
·
Relationship between weight,
size and shape
·
Looking after the body
We
recommend that candidates undergo manual handling training every
three years in the form of a refresher course.
This
course will re-educate the candidate of the aspects of manual
handling listed above, in addition to any changes in legislation
or developments in terms of manual handling techniques.
On
completion of the course, every candidate will have gained knowledge
and understanding of how to prevent injuries with safe lifting
and be able to:

Assess lifting hazards
·
Decide the best way of handling
a load
·
Decide whether or not to ask
for assistance
·
Decide whether to use a tool
or not
·
Decide whether or not to wear
protective equipment
·
Decide, if necessary not to
lift the load at all
